אֵֽל־נְקָמ֥וֹת יְהֹוָ֑ה אֵ֖ל נְקָמ֣וֹת הוֹפִֽיַע:
“Oh God of vengeance, O Lord; O God show vengeance”
Our intention in this section of prayer is to gather all of the divine sparks scattered and hidden within the klipot/husks of the three lower worlds Briya, Yetzira and Asiya. And we need to elevate them to the world of Atziliut.
These sparks are of course, all of the souls and sparks of the 7 primoridal kings of Edom that died in the world of Chaos that preceeded the world of Rectification. The elevation of these gathered sparks will become the mayin nukvin/feminine waters and awaken Z’’A and Nukva to unite during the time of the amida prayer and more specifically during the ‘’falling on the face’ prayer.
However, the sparks that fell into the world of Asiya are not like the ones that fell into the world of Briya or Yetzira. In the world of Asiya the klipot/husks are very great and very powerful and we do not have the strength to take out the sparks that are there. It is only through the power of the 10 martyrs that they are able to be elevated.
During the time of the 2nd Temple the people’s sin was so great that it put the whole world in danger of being destroyed. The people themselves then did not have the power to gather and elevate the sparks through their prayers. It is then that the Creator rectified this through the death of the 10 martyrs. These 10 nobles of Israel needed to die, so that their souls would be able to descend into the depths of Asiya to gather and release all of the sparks. This they continue to do from the day they were killed until the coming of the anointed king Moshiach.
This is the secret to when we say, “Oh God of vengeance, O Lord; O God show vengeance.” We invoke the will of the Creator to avenge the death of the 10 martyrs and this invocation awakens their power to gather and release the sparks of all of the souls concealed within the klipot/husks of the world of Asiya.
